A Pitch for Prison Island

A huge thank you to Naz for bringing Prison Island to us and for setting the project out so clearly. We at Hollywood Indie Festival are cheering you on as you continue to create. The pitch follows below.

The Core Pitch

In a future where convicted criminals are sent to isolated prison islands with no traditional laws or security, a young offender must fight to survive a deadly wilderness and violent inmate communities while confronting the brother who sacrificed his freedom for him and the father he believed had abandoned his family.

Prison Island is a high-concept survival thriller set inside a radical new criminal justice system. Countries around the world have united to create prison islands where offenders serve their sentences without conventional guards, uniforms, or the protection of civilization. Prisoners are left to create their own communities while surviving dangerous wildlife, limited supplies, and other inmates.

At the heart of the story is Frank, whose arrival on the island leads him back to his older brother Jamal, who has already spent five years there after taking responsibility for Frank. Their reunion ultimately forces Frank to confront the consequences of his past, his relationship with his family, and the question of what it truly means to survive.

The combination of crime, survival, family drama, and a lawless prison society gives Prison Island a distinctive genre hook with potential for both a feature film and an expanded serialized property.

Target Audience & Comparable Titles

The primary audience is adults 18–49 who gravitate toward:

  • Action and survival thrillers
  • Crime dramas
  • High-concept speculative fiction
  • Ensemble-driven stories
  • Stories involving incarceration, redemption, family, and survival
  • Mature streaming and independent genre entertainment

The project can be positioned alongside: Escape from New York, for its concept of criminals being isolated within a dangerous, lawless environment. The Condemned, for its combination of incarceration and forced survival. Lost, for the isolated environment, survival elements, group dynamics, and competing communities. Snowfall, for the crime-world, family, street culture, and character-driven elements.

Positioning Statement: "Escape from New York meets Lost, with the street-level crime and family dynamics of Snowfall."

The screenplay's survival component is particularly strong: characters must contend with hunger, dangerous animals, rival groups, and violent individuals while attempting to locate a safer community.

The Vision & Urgency

Prison Island uses a heightened survival-thriller premise to explore questions about criminal justice, institutional failure, personal responsibility, family loyalty, and redemption.

The screenplay imagines a world where society has taken the concept of incarceration to an extreme: rather than rehabilitating or closely monitoring offenders, the system removes them from civilization and leaves them to survive with minimal intervention. The island's official rules make clear that prisoners have no conventional way to leave except death or completion of their sentence.

Within that world, the screenplay remains grounded in personal relationships. Frank's story is not simply about escaping danger; it is also about discovering the sacrifices made by the people closest to him and determining what kind of man he wants to become.

Why Now: the project speaks to ongoing conversations surrounding incarceration, criminal justice, inequality, rehabilitation, and the consequences of removing people from society rather than addressing the circumstances that led them there. By placing those questions inside a commercial survival-thriller framework, Prison Island has the opportunity to entertain while encouraging audiences to consider the human consequences of the systems created to punish and control.

Prison Island offers a commercially accessible genre premise with a deeper human story underneath it. The answer to its central question is a world where alliances become communities, survival becomes currency, and family history follows prisoners even to the most isolated place on Earth. Frank's journey ultimately brings him back to the people and relationships that shaped him: his brother Jamal, who has spent years on the island after protecting Frank, and Rock, Frank and Jamal's father, who has built his own existence within the prison society. That combination of high-concept survival, crime, family, and redemption gives Prison Island a foundation for a compelling feature film and the possibility of a larger cinematic or serialized universe.

Current Status & Industry Goals

Prison Island is currently positioned for professional development, packaging, and industry partnership. The screenplay itself does not identify existing producer, financing, representation, option, shopping agreement, or talent attachments. Accordingly, the immediate objective is to identify strategic partners who can help move the project from screenplay to production.

Seeking:

  • Attached Producer / Production Company: a producer or production company with experience in action, crime, survival, independent film, or streaming content to assist with development, packaging, financing, and production.
  • Script Option / Shopping Agreement: an appropriate industry partner to represent the project in the marketplace and pursue production and distribution opportunities.
  • Development Financing: funding to support professional screenplay development, budgeting, packaging, casting, and other pre-production requirements.
  • Strategic Talent Attachments: recognizable actors whose participation could strengthen the project's financing and distribution potential.
  • Literary / Entertainment Representation: a literary manager or agent capable of positioning the screenplay and introducing the project to qualified producers, financiers, studios, and streaming platforms.
