A Pitch for A Slice of Heaven
A huge thank you to Maria and Bonnie for bringing A Slice of Heaven to us and for setting the project out so clearly. We at Hollywood Indie Festival are cheering you on as you continue to create. The pitch follows below.
Two couples trade places for a season. The older couple's lawyer daughter wants her parents to move into a retirement home. Their younger friends just lost their jobs. They plot for the younger couple to go into a retirement home instead, so they can tour America with their Harleys. The younger ones, however, find more than they bargained for.
First, this dramedy is a perfect opportunity for seasoned A-list actors. The core demographic is mature individuals, so it also targets families. It effectively tackles themes of aging, identity, and the importance of community. It also highlights the value of kindness and second chances, as seen in the two couples' friendship. The story reminds us a little of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,” “Grumpy Old Men,” and “The Odd Couple.”
People who have worked most of their lives and suddenly either have older parents or realize that getting older comes with difficulties they never expected. Some companies prefer younger employees, and older workers are pushed to the sidelines. When entering any institution, in our story, it is the retirement home, people are expected to trust the leadership and helpers. If they are given medications, they are expected to take them, even if those medicines make them delirious or want to sleep all the time. That is where the comedic moments come in, showing the residents' friendship and their eagerness to solve problems by using their prior-life skills to prevent a tragedy. Because of their relationship, the ending ties up loose ends and gives the characters closure. The retirement home's transformation into a “slice of heaven” is a fitting conclusion.
The specific industry partnership Bonnie and I are seeking is a script option and sale, with the potential to have it produced.
