A Pitch for Fredrik + Johan

A huge thank you to Kayla for bringing Fredrik + Johan to us and for setting the project out so clearly. We at Hollywood Indie Festival are cheering you on as you continue to create. The pitch follows below.

What is the official logline of your screenplay? In 2-3 sentences, what is the central conflict and the unique hook of your story?

Before the sun sets on their first day together, German traveler Fredrik is baring his soul and falling for optimistic Johan. But in 1944 Europe ravaged by war and oppression, Fredrik is torn between venturing into an exciting unknown with a man who embraces his soul or his duty to a country that would exterminate him if he dared to be his true self.

Who is the core demographic for this project, and which existing films or series serve as the best comparable titles (comps)?

The forbidden love reminiscent of Heated Rivalry will be targeted towards women and LGBTQIA+ in the 18-35 demo, but the gritty realistic depictions of WWII could broaden the appeal to males 18-45.

What was the primary inspiration behind this script, and why is now the ideal time for it to be produced?

Have you ever found an old photograph of your family from the 1940s? Someone told you their name, who they married, or maybe how the war affected their lives, but chances are you never heard their whole story. Who else did they love? Were they forced to sacrifice their true happiness because the world around them wasn't ready to accept them for who they were? Those who are no longer with us deserve to have their stories told. They might have had a different name, in a different city in a different part of the world, but they were all stripped of the same thing, a right to love. Johan and Fredrick and the rest of the 1944 series, is for the countless closeted queer people in conservative parts of the U.S. and in totalitarian states around the world where they have to camouflage their identities and conceal who they love. By bringing these stories to light, it can only help suppressed people know they're not alone.

What specific industry partnerships are you seeking right now? (e.g., script option/sale, shopping agreement, development financing, attached producers, or literary representation?)

Shopping agreement. I would like to stay involved during the process.
