A Pitch for We Were Rabbits
A huge thank you to Dannielle for bringing We Were Rabbits to us and for setting the project out so clearly. We at Hollywood Indie Festival are cheering you on as you continue to create. The pitch follows below.
Mindy and Clint have always had an interesting way of dealing with one another's peculiarities during their marriage. But when Mindy convinces herself that Clint has been cheating on her, she goes through drastic- and surreal- measures to justify her own emotions, warping the truth in her fingers.
The best comparable titles to this project are "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and "Don't Worry Darling". We Were Rabbits is aimed towards a mature audience of 20-40 somethings.
Stemming from a background in poetry, I started with the title and wrote the script around it. Asking myself how it would be if two people in a relationship are both disillusioned and delusional, who would be right?
The primary inspiration behind this script is deeply rooted in modernist literature that often-featured women suffering from mental illnesses and not receiving the help they needed as the men in their lives demanded otherwise. While society has since moved from trapping women in rooms with yellow wallpaper, I feel we are slipping back into prior roles.
Culturally, there is chaos and whether in agreement or not, We Were Rabbits speaks to that chaos.
Script option/ sale.
