William Osinski
Director of “Victoria The First”
Meet the Creator
A huge thank you to William for these thoughtful answers and for giving us a glimpse behind the scenes of your work. We at Hollywood Indie Festival are cheering you on as you continue to create. Enjoy the interview below!
What is the central conflict and unique selling point of your project?
The heroine of VICTORIA THE FIRST, Victoria Woodhull, was a woman too far ahead of her times, but her story is perfect for ours. She was the first female stockbroker on Wall Street, the first woman to address Congress, and the first woman to run for President (1871-72).
Who is the ideal viewer for this project, and which existing films/series is it most comparable to?
Women who want to be inspired by a Gilded-Age woman who beat the men at their own games; men who want to be entertained by a humorous, bawdy story of a woman of true courage.
What was the primary inspiration behind this story, and why is now the right time for the world to see it?
My vision is that VICTORIA THE FIRST become a cause celebre for female directors and activist/actresses — a 19th Century woman whose story has deep resonance for today’s woman. I firmly believe that, had Victoria not been brought down by the morality police, American women would have gained the vote 30 or 40 years earlier than they did.
Is the project fully completed, or are you currently seeking distribution, finishing funds, or representation?
My script was named a quarterfinalist in the 2023 Nicholl Screenplay Competition. The current priority is to attract an A-list female director and lead actress.
