Jacinta Lagos
Director of “Allowed to birth: the Journey of a Global Midwife”
Meet the Creator
A huge thank you to Jacinta for these thoughtful answers and for giving us a glimpse behind the scenes of your work. We at Hollywood Indie Festival are cheering you on as you continue to create. Enjoy the interview below!
What is the central conflict and unique selling point of your project?
Birth is a natural event that every human goes through once. Despite being a physiological process, the industry has made into a billion dollar industry that profits on interfering with that process. Through the life and work of Midwife Kristine Lauria, we will present an alternative to the issue.
Who is the ideal viewer for this project, and which existing films/series is it most comparable to?
Every person during their fertile years, every woman who is pregnant, wants to be or has had children. Medical providers and out of hospital birth workers from all over the world.
What was the primary inspiration behind this story, and why is now the right time for the world to see it?
1 in 3 women is traumatized during child birth. 1 in 5 will have a surgical birth. Those numbers are not improving, yet the system thinks it’s doing the right thing for their patients. The only thing improving is the medical industrial complex’s profit. This documentary follows along the lines of “The business of being born”.
Is the project fully completed, or are you currently seeking distribution, finishing funds, or representation?
The film is ready and already receiving recognition in film festivals. Getting distribution would be the next step to follow.
