Merlin Vanland

The Protagonist tries to find a way off of the island, he ends up shouldering the fate of that very place and its people. Slithering Tides’ selling point is most probably the fact it’s a one man’s show - writing, editing, filming, direction, costumes, etc. all done by one man. Even the whole process of film making itself was learned on the go and without any previous experience.

The target audience for Slithering Tides is very broad; Adults in general as they have experience and knowledge to understand the themes and visual effects present in the film and of course the elderly due to their already established exposure to black and white cinema as well as classical media. While there’s no connection between existing movies and Slithering Tides, I suppose Nosferatu of 1922 and Creature from the black lagoon of 1954 could be seen as grandfathers to Slithering Tides’ sea dwelling antagonist.

Slithering Tides is one of my scripts that I chose to bring into fruition because the time felt right - I could keep the budget low and well controlled, grow as a director, gain experience while acting and try my hand on the camera and editing process. I would say it’s a right time for world to see Slithering Tides, but also for world to see what Merlin Vanland can do.

Slithering Tides is currently premiering on several festivals, mainly in the United Kingdom. Already earning “Best Debut Feature,” “Best Silent Film” and “Bronze Award” on the London Directors Independent Festival, Hollywood Indie Festival and South East Film Fest respectively. While project is fully completed, I welcome most distribution and any representation with open arms - jolly cooperation would be much appreciated.
